HOW WE WORK
Volunteers:
The other thing we rely on is the supply of volunteers. Unfortunately some have to move on for various reasons so we are always in recruitment mode. If anyone is interested please make contact by emailing mckg@slingshot.co.nz and we will arrange a time to talk with you. It does not take a lot of time as you may be called only 2-4 times a year depending on where you live and how much time you have to offer. Sometimes less and sometimes more. Yes, in most cases you need to get to the venue under your own steam and some of the days can be long. However it is satisfying to be able to find a possible diabetic, send someone off home relieved, or educate your clients and maybe solved a couple of queries. All adults should have a WOF each year and that will include a Diabetes test which will be diagnostic. We give you training and we expect you to attend on-going training each year when it is offered if possible. This is hard as we have screeners in West Auckland to Te Awamutu and the Coromandel Peninsula. However we will work with you and not (hopefully) against you. Our volunteers, who give up their time and often money, in order to help in the fight against the Diabetes epidemic worldwide are so valuable. We have young and old, nurses and non-nurses, ex-medically trained, printers, ex farmers, students, retired, diabetics and non-diabetics and a doctor who works with us. We value everyone.
Supported by the General Public, KMG, Grays Print and Bakerfield A & M
